Primary School visit inspires school children to get into golf

19th July, 2009

A new initiative to get kids into golf has been launched at Manchesters Championship Miniature Golf course.

Saint Edmunds R.C. Primary School were invited to bring their Year 4 and Year 6 pupils to taste the excitement and fun of the great game of golf on our miniature golf course. Many of them had never experienced golf in any format before.

As part of the visit, pupils played in a competition in teams of four against each other and also tackled a quiz on the basic rules and etiquette of the real game - all answers to questions such as explain what par means or when should you shout FORE on a golf course could be found on the bespoke signage around the course.

The initiative has come about with the support of The Golf Foundation and Salford School Sports Partnership. Mike Round, Chief Executive of The Golf Foundation, who visited the course prior to travelling to The Open at Turnberry said:The course offers a tremendous introduction to the game of golf. I've read the feedback from the children who visited and its all really positive, many stating that they would like to try the real game now. The only negative comment was that they wernt able to spend more time here!

The initiative is set to be introduced to other Primary School children in the area as well as to other schools located near to future Championship Miniature Golf courses.
